When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
In today’s opening devotion at West Woods Christian Academy we discussed the passage above. Pride is an inflated or unbalanced view of who we are. Romans 12:3 reminds us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think, but to think soberly. In James 4:6 We are told that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
God is looking to fill us up and use us for His glory. However, if we are full of ourselves, there is no room left in the cup. We can miss out on being blessed and used by Him.
Throughout history God has elevated those who remain humble, and shamed those who don’t. Who in their right mind would want God to resist them by being too proud? Humility is the working out of an attitude of gratitude and dependency on God. That’s the way to be.
